Probably not!

I just tried with Pink Floyd's "Money" and got 6 out of 10 correct, which means it was a 37.7% chance I was guessing. Granted, I'm old as fuck and I've been to a few loud concerts in my day which means my hearing isn't the best, but I also have a pretty good headphone setup.

To do this properly (to rule out placebo as a factor), you'll need the following:

• foobar2000: http://www.foobar2000.org/download
  
  
• ABX plugin for foobar: http://www.foobar200...ts/view/foo_abx (stick this in the "components" folder in your foobar installation, then restart foobar)
  
  
• The music files: FLAC and MP3. I didn't bother converting them to WAV to hide which is which, because if someone wants to cheat, they could just run both files through a spectrum analyzer or modify the ABX log output or say LOL EVEN 320 KBPS SOUNDS LIKE SHIT NICE HEARING YOU FAGIT and post goatse and t0t.

And how to do the test:

• Add both files to foobar.
  
  
• Select both of them, right click, and go to utilities > ABX two tracks.
  
  
• Make sure both boxes are unchecked, then hit OK.
  
  
• Now, under "playback" you have A, B, X, and Y buttons. A and B are the two files, and so are X and Y, but obviously you don't know which is which.
  
  
• The rest should be pretty self explanatory: when you think you've figured out which is which, hit one of the buttons under "choice" and then "next trial". It will then re-randomize the A/B/X/Y files so you can try again, and update your score.

You should do at least 10 tests (I gave up after 10 because it was very difficult to tell them apart and I knew I was just guessing sometimes), and use different parts of the song. When you're finished, the plugin will ask if you want to save a text file of your results, which looks like this:

I stopped at 4 tries. Once the guitar and drums kicked in, I couldn't tell any differences. Of course, my audio equipment didn't cost me thousands of dollars.
